Pressure-injected footings carry expressway viaduct
"Pile" footings constructed by Franki pressure-injection method were employed in expressway viaduct project in NYC; method was used for 434 piles under parts of 3300 ft elevated section of Queens Midtown Expressway; 6-lane viaduct with its 100-ft wide deck rests on columns every 100 ft which straddle existing arterial roadway; Franki piles were driven in clusters of 12 to 14/pier and to depths ranging from 7 to 34 ft to bottom of driving tube; average driven depth was about 13 ft. (39227)
