Study was conducted at U S Steel Applied Research Laboratory to determine requirements for and capacities of ASTM A514 steel in plastically designed structures; part of study that was concerned with beam tests is discussed; tests on uniform-moment beams and tests on beams with moment varying linearly from zero to maximum over unbraced length indicate that A514 steel has sufficient rotation capacity for its use in plastically designed structures.
