Plastic analysis supplements design of aluminum structure
Use of aluminum framework for "criticality assembly" for reactor research at Brookhaven Laboratory serving to support 60 ton experimental apparatus; frame was first designed in accordance with elastic method of analysis, then plastic analysis was carried out to determine ultimate carrying capacity of structure; aluminum was chosen because of its low neutron absorption and scattering cross-sections.
