A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Formulas are derived for analysis of plastic deformations based on considerations similar to those governing classification of steels for building of Liberty ships; investigation of failure requires study of mechanism of cracking, its propagation, and prevention; effect of aging, fatigue, physico-chemical changes, and thermal exposure; role of triaxial stresses developed near notches; behavior of stresses at moment of rupture.
