Author's address is presented in which he accepts first copy of book "From Theory to Practice in Soil Mechanics," summarizing his previously published works; he reviews, at this occasion, most important aspects of soil mechanics; he warns especially against dogmatism and misuse of soil mechanics; many members of this profession are still spoiled by success of applied mathematics in other fields of civil engineering.
