Concrete construction at Trawsfynydd nuclear power station
500 Mw plant consists of 2 reinforced concrete reactor buildings, 298 ft long, 180 ft wide and 179 ft high; biological shield-walls are 10 ft thick and form cylinder of 70 ft diam; cooling pond for irradiated fuel elements is 335 ft long, 35 ft wide, and 20 ft deep; main turbine building is 370 ft long, 140 ft wide and 96 ft high steel structure; 200,000 cu yd of concrete used with varying specifications for structural and shielding purposes.
