Behavior of stationary wire ropes in tension and bending
Experimental investigation of behavior of wire ropes in tension and bending to determine strengths and stresses produced under load, and to compare these values with those given by formulas in common use; 9 tension and 36 bending specimens were tested over sheaves of four diameters; ropes selected were 1 in. in diam, with hemp centers; loss of strength in bending; variation in modulus of elasticity of rope under pre-stressing. (See also - (discussion) n 5 May p 817-23, n 6 Aug p 945-9)
