Effectiveness of rock dust in limiting mine explosions and extinguishing of mine fires
Distinction is made between "rock dusting" and "use of rock dust," latter referring usually to rock dusting only on haulage roads; importance of starting rock dusting at coal face, where most explosions originate; examples of effectiveness of rock dust and of explosions occurring in mines where rock dusting was incomplete; discussion by W. H. GATES describes practice at Nemacolin mines. (See also - discussion p 7-9)
