Four short contributions presented cover survey made of conditions that favor greater utilization of timber in structures and continuing development of timber engineering, problem of safety factors and increase of working stresses, proposed ultimate bending theory for rectangular wooden beams, and critical appraisal of current column design procedures for which more rational formula is proposed based on combined Euler-Engesser theory.
