Wave attenuation in channel with roughened sides
Semiempirical study was made in rectangular channel, side walls which had been provided with regularly spaced roughness strips found to be highly effective wave dampers; dimensionless resistance coefficient could be deduced from attenuation data; this coefficient was mainly function of ratio of horizontal orbit diameter to roughness height; processes by which energy is transferred laterally to side walls were investigated; these investigations fell short of their aim due to disturbing effects of lateral secondary waves.
