Orthogonal coordinates for analysis of long gravity waves near islands
Study of diffraction of long gravity waves of irregular shape; problem involves conformal mapping of island onto coordinate plane in which island contour is unit circle; mapping relation is evaluated by iterative procedure similar to that of T.Theodorsen, but has advantage that it is applicable to island contour in which island contour relation r(theta), in polar coordinates, is multivalued for given range of theta; this generality is achieved by employing parametric representation of island contour in which arc length on island contour enters as parameter; application is made for two specific cases, Wake Island and Kauai.
