Drinking water supply tunnels in Crown Colony of Hong Kong
10 km long main tunnel of Plover-Cove water supply project is excavated in volcanic rock and has horseshoe-form cross section with height at arch key varying between 9 and 10 m; following blasting and clearing of each 4.2-m long section, 2 to 3 cm thick shotcrete layer was applied to walls as temporary support, using Swedish "Robot Spray" truck-mounted equipment; 15 to 20 cm thick final lining was cast in-situ with aid of concrete pumps; total time of drilling, blasting, shotcreting, and preparation for next sequence of operations was 20 hr.
