Criteria are established that permit design of hygienic as well as comfortable ventilating system for hospitals; concept of providing equivalent threshold sanitary ventilation for cubage potentially vitiated by susceptible patient decreases air changes to level that is quiet and free of drafts; bacterial isolation of patient room by curtain of high intensity ultraviolet radiation protects this environment.
