Rail tunnel underpasses runway in Holland
Two-thirds of 1640 ft long tunnel incorporates deep walls built by slurry trench method, concrete floor cast under water and prestressed concrete piles designed to resist uplift; deep-injection chemical stabilization was used for remaining part of tunnel, eliminating tension piles; tension piles are shown in cross section and their driving is described; casting of floor under water; tunnel roof was case in 50 ft long sections, using traveling forms; chemically stabilized section of tunnel will be divided into 50 ft parts where well points will check on leakage.
