Measurement on pilot bore for straight creek tunnel
Measurements of rock loads and ground movements in relation to excavation of tunnel conducted by Terrametrics, Inc, of Golden, Colo; relationship between load imposed on steel sets and designed load, zone of influence around tunnel where ground is strained as result of tunnel excavation, strain variation outward from tunnel walls resulting from tunnel excavation, and rate of decrease of overall ground strain rates with time and tunnel face advance were measured; 44 instrumentation stations were installed to measure rock load on steel support, and overall radial deformation of roof and walls of tunnel, and to permit calculation of rate of change of rock strain rate as tunnel face advances away from station.
