Relief of traffic congestion is by planned construction of extension serving southeast suburbs; Overall General Plan for Rome provides for four Metropolitan railroads, each of which will take integrated place in planned city transport scheme; rolling stock will have bodies not more than 17 m oa with 2.5-m truck wheelbases; first section of system is being built by cut-and-cover methods beneath public streets; features and layout of new stations are given.
