Construction of north-south subway line in Munich
New 120 ton cutterhead tunneling machine is equipped with 6.72 m diam 5.40 m long shield driven by 24 hydraulic jacks exerting pressure up to 2400 tons; mucking operations as well as forwarding and installation of 5 m long reinforced concrete lining sections weighing 3.3 tons each are fully mechanized; with cutterhead making 7 rpm, shield advances at rate of 5 mm/revolution.
