Unbalanced buildings, and buildings with light towers, under earthquake forces
Torsionally unbalanced buildings, and buildings surmounted by relatively light towers, have special sensitive features which influence seismic forces and movements in them; this sensitivity arises when natural period of building in translational movement is close to torsional period in one case, or to period of tower in other case; such buildings call for special consideration during dynamic analysis; when building damping is low its behavior may differ dramatically from that which occurs when damping is high; discussion is confined to elastic buildings but takes account of damping.
