Finite-element analysis of structural frames
Rational method for computer analysis of rectangular plane frames is presented; three degrees of freedom are allowed at each joint; flexural stiffness, transverse and axial load, and foundation spring restraint are allowed to vary as desired along each frame member; loads, couples and restraints can also be specified at each joint; equations which mathematically describe bar and spring model of real frame are formulated; iterative procedure is used to solve these equations; procedures for computer solution of equations describing frame behavior are developed and convergence of computer solution is discussed; comparison is made with results developed by accepted theory and solutions of realistic example problems are presented.
