Recent trends in European standards for steel structure design
Developments in art of building resulting from better knowledge of materials and improved design methods are surveyed; recourse to probabilistic theories and statistical methods permits rational design leading to consistent safety and material economy; this evolution is already marked by tangible results, such as recommendations of European Convention of Constructional Steelwork Assns and new French Code CM 1966.
