Development and present state of steam turbogenerator foundation design; modern foundation consisting of long, heavy table plate with cut-outs for machines, slender columns supporting this plate, and bed plate transmitting loads to subsoil is considered; summary of newer design methods for table plate considered as vibrating longitudinal beam on elastic supports is presented; methods are critically evaluated, and attempt is made to establish guidelines for their further improvement.
