Notes on Madras Presidency and tracts like Godavari, Krishna and Cauvery deltas; soil is bad, road materials and even gravelly earth are not obtainable; fairly good brick earth and sand are available; pavement with brick set on edge, laid in cement mortar (1 to 4) over sand cushion about 1 in. thick will cost about 6000 rupees per mi; data on experimental pavement; brick laid dry soon failed, but brick laid on mortar stood well for over 3 yr.
