The effect of specimen size on the fracture energy of concrete
AbstractThe effect of specimen size on the fracture energy of concrete was studied for 3-point bend tests on notched beams. Specimen sizes ranged from 100×100×840 mm to 400×400×3360 mm. It was concluded that the values for both fracture energy (GF) and KIC increased considerably for the largest beams tested. However, including the self-weight of the beams in the calculations made very little difference to the calculated values of GF.
