AbstractThis paper describes the biological importance of the Banyuasin Sembilang delta, indicating the current patterns of resource use by the local communities and their socioeconomic values. It reviews the existing and scheduled large-scale development projects for and adjacent to the delta. An integrated land use/conservation plan for the Banyuasin Sembilang delta is proposed, which accommodates the needs for future small-scale swamp land development with conservation of the fragile but rich biological resources.
