Changes in landscape patterns and vegetation dynamics in Provence, France
Abstract We demonstrate methods of relating vegetation dynamics and landscape patterns in an area of Provence (southeastern France), where land abondonment started 100 years ago. Floristic state (score on a gradient) at the stand level (one cell on a grid) is correlated to landscape pattern (score on a landscape gradient) and change, seen at a scale of 64-cell windows. This approach increases possibilities for modelling successional changes by integrating landscape composition and heterogeneity at several scales.
