Theoretical analysis of the double torsion test
AbstractIn the ordinary analysis of the double torsion test it is assumed that the bending moment in the joint between the two specimen halves is concentrated upon a region near the crack tip. In reality this moment is more or less distributed along the joint. The moment distribution and its effect upon the test results are analysed by means of the fictitious crack model. Numerical results are given. It is concluded that the ordinary method of analysis should only be applied to mortar or concrete specimens if these are larger than a minimum size. Due to this limitation, the suitability of using the double torsion test for mortar or concrete is questionable.
