Design of cold-formed purlins and rails restrained by sheeting
AbstractIn Chapter 7.3 of Eurocode 3 Part 1.3 a design procedure has been given for cold-formed beams restrained by sheeting (e.g. roof purlins, sheeting rails). This paper describes the calculation model which is the basis of this procedure. Furthermore, a comparison is given between calculated results and test results for single span beams subject to both downward and uplift load. This comparison shows that the design procedure is amply safe when compared with the test results. A number of reasons for this conservatism are discussed.
