Dynamic behavior of flexible, semirigid and rigid steel frames
AbstractA single story steel structure was constructed such that the connections could be changed from flexible to semirigid and finally to rigid connections. The structures having these three types of connections were subjected to base excitation, simulating several major past earthquakes, using the shaking table. A total of 44 shake table tests were conducted. The parameters of study were, type of connections (three types), type of earthquake (three types) and peak ground accelerations (from 0·05 g to 0·5 g). The behavior of flexible and semirigid structures under dynamic loading was studied, and their respective responses were compared to that of the rigid structure subjected to similar earthquakes. The use of flexible and semirigid structures in seismic zones is studied and commented on.
