Axisymmetrically supported heavy circular plate
AbstractA heavy or uniformly loaded thin plate rests on a smaller axisymmetric support. The solutions are found analytically and numerically. Optimum sizes of a ring support are determined for minimum sag, moment or shear. The addition of a central pinned support suppresses the deflections, but causes infinite local moment and shear at the center. Of interest is the solid cylinder support, where a freely resting heavy plate would incur partial separation due to the overhang.
