Monitoring two kibbutz houses in the Negev desert
AbstractIdeological and economic considerations dictate the construction of identical house plans in the kibbutz, a collective form of settlement. This practice may have unpleasant side effects due to variable environmental conditions, especially the extreme ones common in the desert. To illustrate this, two new neighboring houses were monitored in kibbutz Revivim, situated in the Negev Desert highlands, Israel. The different behavior of the houses shows that considerable micro-climatic differences may exist within a small site, as a result of site planning and house design.
