Multi-dimensional consolidation analysis of transversely isotropic viscoelastic saturated soils
Abstract Based on the extended precise integration method, we investigate the multi-dimensional consolidation problem of transversely isotropic viscoelastic saturated soils. Firstly, we introduce extended precise integration solutions of multi-dimensional such as axisymmetric and three-dimensional Biot's consolidation. Then the Merchant model is applied to simulate the viscoelasticity of soils. Through the elastic-viscoelastic correspondence principle, the corresponding conversion between elastic parameters and viscoelastic parameters is achieved in the Laplace transformed domain. Finally, by a numerical inversion we obtain the solution of axisymmetric and three-dimensional consolidation of viscoelastic transversely isotropic saturated soils. Two numerical examples are conducted to verify this proposed method. Furthermore, several examples are presented to study the effect of viscoelasticity on the consolidation behavior of transversely isotropic viscoelastic saturated soils.
Highlights Extended precise integration method is introduced to solve the elastic consolidation problem. Merchant model is applied to simulate the creep of transversely isotropic viscoelastic soils. Elastic-viscoelastic correspondence principle is used to achieve the solution of the problem studied. Effect of viscoelasticity on multi-dimensional consolidation behavior is investigated.
