Stability of geotextile-retained earth railroad embankments
AbstractApplication of geotextiles to retain railroad embankments is relatively new. Presented is a methodology for stability analysis of such a structure. The analysis accounts for surcharge load and it satisfies all global equilibrium requirements. It is based on variational limit equilibrium and although the basic formulation is involved, a closed-form solution is derived. Consequently a complete investigation of the solution behaviour is conducted. Comparison of the analysis prediction with limited experimental work exhibits good agreement. The end products of this work are stability design charts.
