Assessment of seismic displacements of slopes
AbstractSudden ground motion during an earthquake can induce significant inertia forces in a slope. The induced inertia forces alternate in direction and magnitude numerous times. The overall effect of an earthquake on the slope is therefore the accumulation of displacement at the failed section. The first part of this paper describes a numerical procedure for estimating this displacement. In the later part, a model test of a collapsing slope induced by anaearthquake under laboratory conditions is described. It is found that the analytical solutions so obtained compare well with the present model test.
