Integrating university GIS education with funded projects: Is it worth the effort?
AbstractBudgetary exigencies in colleges and universities have led many educators to seek outside grants and contracts as a way of defraying the high hardware and software costs associated with GIS curricula. However, this approach is not without its potential disadvantages. This paper considers the factors that must be considered when integrating GIS education and funded outside projects. The conclusion is that integration can be successfully accomplished if the GIS course and funded project are carefully planned, organized and managed.
