Dealkylation of pseudo-cumene with steam using an alumina-rhodium catalyst
Abstract 1. Conversion of pseudocumeme with steam using an aluminium-rhodium catalyst at 430–480° results in formation of benzene, toluene and isomeric xylenes. The methyl group separates most readily from pseudo-cumene in position 4 and least in position 2. 2. Benzene and toluene are forme not only as a result of stepwise dealkylation of pseudocumene, but also by separation of two and threee methyl groups without desorption of intermediate products.
