The sitting of large-scale WECS in the Netherlands
AbstractPresent spatial policy in the Netherlands will have to be adjusted in order to realize the objective of a 1.000 MW wind capacity in the year 2000. This conclusion can be drawn from the study ‘Ruimte voor wind’ (‘Space for wind’) which was published by the National Physical Planning Agency (Ministry of Housing, Physical Planning and Environment) in mid 1987. It has become apparent that the placement of a 1.000 MW capacity of wind turbines will have such effects on the environment that a supplementary spatial policy will be necessary. In the study mentioned a reconnaissance, based on a number of models, has been made into the possibilities for placing a large number of wind turbines. In particular the weighing of economic and landscape aspects has received a lot of attention. In this paper a description will first be given of the Dutchh situation with respect to wind energy. After that the report which has been mentioned, ‘Space for Wind’, will be dealt with.
