Thermolysis of petroleum products with molecular oxygen and an active filler
Abstract 1. At a temperature of 560° with molecular oxygen in the reactor and with a BAU filler at a pressure of up to 5 atm a petroleum fraction boiling within the range of 200 to 300° was subjected to thermal oxidation to examine the effect of the active filler and of pressure on the yield of aromatic and unsaturated hydrocarbons. 2. With a BAU filler, on increasing pressure the yield of aromatic hydrocarbons carbons (benzene, toluene, etc.) increases from 28 to 62% in liquid products. In experiments without filler the yield of these compounds does not exceed 22%. 3. In the thermal oxidizing process with a BAU filler up to 70–80% of the oxygen is used to form CO2, CO and H2O. The rest of the oxygen is used to form liquid products, aldehydes, ketones and alcohols. In experiments without filler up to 50% oxygen is used for the formation of liquid oxygen compounds, i.e. 2·5 times more, which indicates the different mechanism of oxidation.
