A causal investigation between leader reward behavior and subordinate role perceptions
Abstract Three aspects of leader reward behavior (positive instrumentality, punitive instrumentality, and advancement instrumentality) and their longitudinal relationships with subordinate role perceptions (role conflict and role ambiguity) were studied in a public agency environment. Overall, the results provided support for all three leader reward measures being causally related to both lower role conflict and lower role ambiguity.
