Velocity distribution in turbulent oscillatory boundary layer
AbstractThe theoretical model presented here is designed to predict the velocity distribution in a turbulent oscillatory boundary layer over a fixed bed by using an eddy viscosity model. In this model, the appropriable nature of the eddy viscosity is discussed on the basis of experimental data. It is concluded that for a certain range of experimental conditions it is reasonable to assume that the eddy viscosity in the turbulent oscillatory boundary layer is a time independent and real-valued function of elevation only. Moreover, the present model has been compared with a wide range of experimental data and with the models of Kajiura (1968) and Myrhaug (1982). It has been found that the present model gives a better prediction on the velocity distribution than the former models.
