A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Abstract The CSTB has realised the climatic wind tunnel Jules Verne to recreate the wind with its space-time structure combined with rain, temperature, sun, snow, frost, sand and smoke, and this occurs in an correct aerodynamic field reproducing the actual conditions under which these phenomena are developed. The aim of the climatic wind tunnel is to give a scientific device in order to study the real behaviour of building or building elements, vehicles, transport equipments, engines, machines subjected to combined effects of wind and other climatic parameters. This paper describes this exceptional facility and its main performances The wind tunnel Jules Verne is brought into operation since October 90 excepted cold ambiences and snow, and a second part in charge of thermal phenomena (wind, snow, frost and cold ambience) will be realised in 1993. This very large innoving facility is opened towards all the world areas concerned by Research and Industry.
