Wind response of a tower (Typhoon observation at the Nagasaki Huis Ten Bosch Domtoren)
AbstractObservation of typhoons was conducted at a one hundred metre tower. In this paper, characteristics of the wind and the response of the tower during typhoons are investigated and discussed. Extraordinarily large turbulence intensity was observed near the center of the typhoon. The gradient wind of the typhoon was simulated and the existence of the super gradient region was indicated from the comparison between the result and observation data. The fundamental natural period of the tower was increased with the increase of the response amplitude. Furthermore, the damping ratio of the tower during the typhoon was evaluated by the random Decrement technique and variation with the response amplitude and wind speed was shown.
