Highlights Corrosion in concrete is the most common problems for reinforced concrete (r.c.) structures. Tests are performed on pull-out specimens subjected to corrosion with a current density of 200μA/cm2. The presence of corroded transversal confinement is studied. A bond efficiency is evaluated in presence of an increase level of corrosion (up to 20% of mass loss).
Abstract The bond between steel and concrete has a profound influence on the structural behaviour of reinforced concrete structures in both service and ultimate conditions. In the present work, bond–slip behaviour between steel and concrete has been analysed in the presence of corrosion of a steel reinforcing bar. The results of pull-out RILEM type tests are presented. The tests have been performed on specimens with and without confinement in the presence of an increasing level of corrosion up to 20% of mass loss. Corrosion has been induced by means of an electrochemical procedure with a current density of 200μA/cm2. The local bond–slip curve between the steel and concrete, in the presence of a short embedment length between the two materials, has been obtained. The results show the influence of the corrosion level and the presence of confinement in terms of the bond–slip response.
