Synthetic organic chemistry using pillared, cation-exchanged and acid-treated montmorillonite catalysts — A review
AbstractThis review is concerned with the use of pillared, cation-exchanged and acid-treated montmorillonites as catalysts for reactions which can be carried out on a preparative laboratory or industrial scale. Most notably the clays display Brønsted and Lewis acid activities, but Diels-Alder reactions can also be effected using these materials. An introduction covers the basis of the various types of catalytic activity and gives some experimental details, while the main body of the text reviews reaction types, giving typical conditions and yields.
