Modeling to Generate Alternatives: A Shawnee National Forest example
Abstract This paper describes a technique known as Modeling to Generate Alternatives (MGA), and its potential application to National Forest planning. Two MGA approaches are examined-decision space based and objective space based. A screening technique is also described which allows the selection of a small number of alternatives from a large set of generated alternatives. A demonstration of how the technique works is presented using two analysis areas on the Shawnee National Forest.
