The technical services of the royal castle in Warsaw
Abstract Complete postwar reconstruction of the Royal Castle in Warsaw (except for parts of the foundation walls, some small sections of the main walls and part of the basement vaulting) allowed very considerable freedom in the design of its technical services, whose specifications were determined by the future functions of the building. The following organization of the design work was agreed. Within the organizational framework of the project team responsible for the reconstruction and conservation work, an independent design unit was set up which, in addition to producing the detailed architectural and construction drawings, commissioned technical services designs from specialist outside design offices, and coordinated the execution of this design work. Thus a system of multistage design, involving conception, initial design and technical working drawings was agreed. Each stage of the design work was examined and evaluated by the Architectural and Conservation Committee of the Citizens' Committee on the Reconstruction of the Royal Castle in Warsaw, to which the Warsaw City Architect had delegated his authority. The basic principle adopted was for the design of the longest-lasting, independent and centrally operated systems.
