Design of slopes reinforced with geotextiles and geogrids
AbstractThe paper presents a design procedure for slopes reinforced with geotextiles and geogrids, modified and expanded from the work of Murray. A bilinear surface of sliding is assumed and consideration can be taken of the pore water pressures and the initial stress conditions in the slope. Charts have been developed to facilitate the solution of the design equations. The charts also show the influence of individual design parameters on the factor of safety, and therefore they can serve as useful design tools. The method can also be used for stability computations of unreinforced natural slopes, with the advantage that the existing in situ stress field can be considered. Guidelines for selecting design parameters are presented, and an example problem is appended to illustrate the method.
