Application of larsen's model to Brisbane, Australia
Abstract Larsen's model is applied to a year of data collected in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Ozone and TSP concentrations are examined. The assumptions of Larsen's model predictions are compared with observations. It has been shown previously by (P.G. Surman, 1981, Honours dissertation, Griffith Univ., Queensland, Australia) that the assumption of lognormality was suspect. Another assumption about the median concentration is found to be suspect. In predicting expected maxima however the model does quite well for averaging times of 8 h or less. Significant errors arise with longer averaging times. The work indicates that Larsen's model, in spite of the suspect assumptions, may be a useful empirical model for management purposes in urban Australia areas. Further work with longer data sets is encouraged.
