Multiple box model for dispersion of air pollutants from area sources
Abstract A two-dimensional atmospheric diffusion model for computation of the ambient air concentration of pollutants emitted from an area source is described. When the geostrophic wind, the net heat flux, the surface roughness, the mixing height of the atmosphere and the emission rate of the source are specified, the steady-state pollutant concentration is determined as a function of distance downwind and distance from the surface. Conservation of mass equations for an array of boxes (or nodes) are solved simultaneously by an implicit finite difference scheme for different representative atmospheric conditions and the results discussed.
