Abstract Data for scientific visualization arrives from many sources and requires different techniques to produce descriptive and analytical pictures. Typical data types include volumetric, geometric and image. Six key visualization techniques are briefly outlined; each is suited to different types of data, but each may be required in any visualization task. Visualization systems must facilitate moving data between these techniques.
