Stability of frames subjected to a white noise base excitation
Dynamic stability of elastic frames subjected to an earthquake Gaussian white noise base excitation is considered. Different necessary and sufficient conditions for the mean-square stability of the equilibrium state are developed. Several examples concerning the stability of the equilibrium state of single and multi-degree-of-freedom structures are studied. The results are compared with those obtained by a digital simulation technique and the existing almost-sure stability criteria. The simulation results suggest that the mean-square stability is more reliable when compared with the almost-sure one.
